The Spatial Distribution of 1918-1920 Spanish Influenza in large urban areas has been the focus of recent research, and the main interest has been to explore the correlation between district level demographic and social levels and flu mortality, but mostly analysing single waves. That’s the case of the census tract analysis during the strong fall wave in Chicago and the effect of literacy or the neighborhood of residence and apartment size and its effect on influenza survival in Kristiana during 1918. These small-area studies within cities often focus on one or two waves of pandemic outbreak, but this can ignore the changing transmission mechanisms and role acquired immunity plays in consecutive breakouts. The role compositional factors played in mortality during each of the three influenza waves in Madrid may have changed according to changing immunity in the population and virus makeup, for that reason we will explore the full pandemic between 1918 and 1922, including as well the different echo waves.
